Mj Law
The Master of Jurisprudence (M.J.) program is designed for non-lawyers who seek in-depth knowledge of the law to answer legal questions in their professional lives. Students interested in careers with a legal dimension build a practical and marketable knowledge base of law and enhance their qualifications in many different professional fields. Gabriel Jack, an immigration attorney in the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley, partnered with Michael Muston in 2000 to found MJ Law. Since then, Gabriel has focused on helping Silicon Valley businesses, families, investors, artists, and artists obtain visas to enter the United States. While these areas reflect particular strengths within UW Law School, students can tailor the program to their individual career goals. Every business faces legal and regulatory issues. Our Master of Jurisprudence (MJ) is designed to provide you with in-depth knowledge of the areas of law that impact your business landscape. The program is very beneficial for those who need a thorough understanding of the law in their leadership positions. Our MJ concentrations can be tailored to the needs of your career or business. With just four requirements — three required courses, plus a large research and writing project — students can customize their studies.
Our faculty and MJ program staff work with each student to create a personalized study plan. You can also find relevant courses at other schools outside of law school. For those working during the MJ program, the part-time option and morning or late afternoon classes allow students to balance career, study, and commitment at law school. Students can participate in experiential learning and take advantage of the many innovative or non-profit businesses in the area to complete an internship. “In the middle of my articling period, all the courses I took in law school, whether legal or competency-related, were very helpful in my day-to-day work.” We are committed to providing all our clients with the personal attention and zealous protection they need to achieve favorable results. Our lawyers handle a wide range of matters in the areas of criminal defence, family law, personal injury, corporate defence, class offence litigation, class actions, complex litigation, cannabis law and criminal law reform. Four students share their personal experiences in UW Law`s J.D., LL.M., Ph.D. and M.J. programs. Dozens of graduates from all walks of life have taken advantage of the Master of Jurisprudence (MJ) program to pursue their passions. Listen first-hand to three of them.
Whether you`re a near-graduate student or an intermediate-level professional, the M.J. offers a competitive advantage to enter the workforce, change career direction, or do your job more effectively. Along with other GMs, you`ll be seated alongside J.D., LL.M. and graduates from other schools in most courses, learning from the experiences each person brings. Joining the UW Law School community also brings connections with alumni and faculty, as well as the benefits of a wider academic network in a vibrant cultural epicenter. The Master of Jurisprudence offers concentrations in accounting, HR, real estate, business, technology and other professionals and executives who are often faced with legal and regulatory issues. Our MJ concentrations provide the in-depth legal knowledge you need to work more effectively in your career. Professor Theo Myhre talks on TEDxUofW on May 7 about how learning about law can be our most powerful tool for social change.
With specialized legal knowledge, GM graduates excel as professionals who can communicate effectively and conveniently with legal advisors and assess the needs of their organizations as laws and regulations affecting their professions change and evolve. Graduates learn the legal analysis process by reviewing cases, laws and regulations. You will develop the ability to conduct effective and relevant legal research, as well as communicate clearly and analytically. Graduates also acquire the ability to think critically about legal issues and correctly apply current legal authority. UW Law has formalized a unique partnership in China that will allow dozens of Chinese professionals to participate in the Master of Jurisprudence program. Students have access to some of the brightest minds in the world. Our faculty members are leading researchers, leaders in their fields, respected practitioners and dedicated educators. Our faculty members are committed to teaching in an inspired way and helping you achieve your professional goals. Virtually all courses in the upper-class program are available to MJ students and have the opportunity to learn from the entire law school.
